Indian and Chinese graduate students are showing contrasting enrollment patterns at US universities, based on a recently available report released by the Council of Graduate Schools. For India, first-time enrollment increased by 40% after 2 yrs of flat growth. As opposed, first-time enrollment of Chinese grew by measly 5% when compared with over 20% increase in previous couple of years.
Student mobility can be a complex phenomenon with multiple variables influencing the future directions. The current state of graduate student mobility can be explained by no less than three primary dimensions--institutional side, student side and external environment. On this article, I analyze the alteration in the institutional side and subsequent blogs will take care of remaining two dimensions.
